Title: "New journeys in iron, immunity and haematopoiesis"

Alexander Drakesmith’s work is centered on the biology of iron, and on the iron regulatory hormone hepcidin in the context of immunity, infection and anemia. His projects traverse molecular mechanisms, translational studies, and global health. His research group have defined some of the fundamental concepts of iron homeostasis and have moved our basic research findings through to testing in clinical trials. He is graduated in Biochemistry and Immunology at the Universities of Cambridge, Kyoto and London (UCL). Drakesmith's lab is based at the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine at the University of Oxford.
