‘The Life Cycle’ | MNSR and ICBAS

Last October 28th, we inaugurated the exhibition ‘Life Cycle’ in partnership with the Museu Nacional Soares dos Reis. Based on the allegory FOUR SEASONS, a series of four paintings from the 17th century, the exhibition establishes a relationship with the different phases of the human being's life.

This exhibition marks the start of a series of initiatives that aim to exalt the role that various artistic expressions have in the history of ICBAS, valuing scientific knowledge, combined with artistic development. It will also allow ICBAS to assert itself as a cultural center for life and health sciences, contributing directly to the dynamics of the cultural agenda of the city of Porto. For Henrique Cyrne Carvalho, ICBAS’ director: ‘This is an opportunity to open our doors to the community and to bring culture and art to our students. This is part of a huge project that aims to promote science through culture and arte.”

As explain by the director of Museu Nacional Soares dos Reis, António Ponte: “The project Other Places seeks to be a brand of the Museu Nacional Soares dos Reis outside its formal space. A specific itinerant project, with its own curatorship, always taking into account the specificities of the partners, the place of presentation and the contexts in which this happens. The ICBAS – Instituto de Ciências Biomédicas Abel Salazar | School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences is the first stop on this itinerary. It is next to the Museum, with a population of teachers, students and other potentially visitors of our Museum. In this context, we carry out a curatorship that reflects one of the missions of this higher education institution.”

The exhibition will be open every weekday between 9:00 am and 6:00 pm until January, 7th.
