Description

The Master’s program lasts for two years: i) Academic year (1st year); ii) Dissertation or Internship (2nd Year). The 1st Year is organized in 2 semesters. The curricular units are taught in a modular system, generally on a quarterly basis. The attendance can be in full or partial time. The Master’s degree has two branches of specialization: i) Marine Biology and Ecology. ii) Aquaculture and Fisheries. The 1st semester of the 1st year has course units common to the branches. The 2nd semester has curricular units specific to each branch, although some are shared. Most curricular units (58%) are optional, allowing Master’s students to build training courses considering their personal tastes and future perspectives. The Master has active collaborations with IPMA, public aquariums, R&D centers and companies.

For whom?

They can apply for the Master of Science in Marine Sciences – Marine Resources (MCMRM) holders of a bachelor’s degree or its legal equivalent in areas of Life Sciences.

Why this master?

The master’s degree provides knowledge and promotes skills that guarantee the advanced training of professionals capable of intervening in the research and management of the sea and coastal areas, the sustainable development of aquaculture and fisheries, and creating added value for the marine ecosystem resources and services. Teaching promotes gains in professional and personal skills, emphasizing practical aspects and the progress of initiative and creativity. The master’s degree is oriented towards studying the biota inhabiting the oceans and coastal areas, considering them to be part of a dynamic environment that needs to be preserved and as limited natural resources, whose exploration is intense, complex, requiring qualified individuals.
