Title: "Unraveling DNA methylation Changes in Immune Cells: Mechanistic Insights and Clinical Significance"
Esteban Ballestar is senior group leader of the Epigenetics and Immune Disease Laboratory at the Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute (IJC) in Barcelona, Spain. His research focuses on deciphering the mechanisms underlying epigenetic changes, primarily DNA methylation, in immune cells. His particular emphasis lies in investigating immune-related disorders, mainly autoimmune and primary immunodeficiencies. Ballestar obtained his Ph.D. degree from the University of Valencia and has also worked at the National Institutes of Health (Bethesda, MD, USA), the Spanish National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO) in Madrid and the Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute in Barcelona. He is author of more than one hundred and forty peer-reviewed manuscripts in high rank journals, member of several scientific societies and acts as reviewer for many journals and national and international funding agencies. In 2018, Ballestar was elected corresponding member of the Spanish Royal Academy of Sciences. Since 2022, Ballestar is Visiting Chair Professor at East China Normal University in Shanghai.
